5/31: Its Sexy: Soul Release: Black Erotica (Verbal Porno)

SHAMELESS PLUG: As I am crossing the Fuller Warren bridge after work, Emanuel (my business partner) calls to thank me for my hardwork in getting our Soul Release: Black Erotica event in the Folio Weekly as a Arts: Best Bets page 36 in this week's May 27, 2008, of course I was surprised because they recently took our announcement about Soul Release out of the calendar section, but left several spoken word events that have been over for years. But regardless, I am happy and sent a text message to Tory, the bar manager at 9th and Main. Well the event featuring GEORGIA ME (Tony Award Winner-Def Poetry Jam) and AINSLEY BURROWS (NYC slam poet). Plus the legendary verbal porno open mic hosted by Chanel and music by DJ Al Pete. Adm: $15 (advance) and $20 (at the door).

6/14: She's back: Rachelle Ferrell live @ Ritz Theatre and Lavilla Museum

Best known for her duet with Will Downing, "Nothing Has Ever Felt Like This", I first discovered Rachelle Ferrell music while a sophomore at Florida State. And then last year (2007), the Kimmer and I went to her concert at the Ritz Theatre, and it rocked. If you have ever been to the Ritz then you know its a very initimate venue (350), the connection (ongoing conversation) between Ferrell and the audience was so on point, she even deviated from her set list and song "Blackbird", and of course after several requests throughout the night, the ended the concert with "Nothing Has Ever Felt Like This", singing both parts of the song. Well she will be back in J'ville, Saturday, June 14 8pm @ Ritz Theatre/Lavilla Museum. Adm: $35. Order your tickets early last time it sold out.
